Vale Ted Hamilton (MHYC Life Member)
1934 - 2023
It is with great sadness, that we at MHYC report the recent passing of Life Member and a great supporter of our club Ted (Hubert) Hamilton who joined our club in 1993, a member for 30 years.
Ted & his wife Dot started sailing Tasers at Northbridge Sailing Club. Ted went on to sail against his buddy David Lees for many years at the Northbridge club.
At around the year 2000, David bought his yacht Farr N Away and Ted joined him sailing on Saturdays for about 6 years and then continued every Wednesday for many years after that. He very much enjoyed his regular Wednesday racing. In the interest of safety and helping others learn the racing rules of sailing, he started up our regular popular Wednesday quizzes. Many of those are still being recycled nowadays and I am told that people still do not get the correct!
Ted will always be remembered by our members as a wonderful man, with a smile on his face and always kind word to say. However it was his work behind the scenes as a volunteer with our club that earned him the honour of Life Membership.
For many years he was on the Sailing Committee as minute secretary, always ensuring he produced accurate minutes. He was also a regular member of the Volunteer Race Officers team and the Special Regulations Committee. In 2011 was awarded the R.B. Cooper Perpetual Award for Voluntary Service.
A few years ago Ted needed to step away from sailing and our club to look after his wife Dot. Sadly Dot passed in July 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Ted was devoted to her throughout.
